Pastor Kurt came to Emmanuel in 2001 from Clarksburg, having grown-up in Springfield, MO. He went to college at Missouri State University; graduate school at Gordon Conwell in MA; and got his doctorate at Palmer in PA. He is married to Mona (since ’82) and has four grown children: Michelle, Stephanie (and Blake), Kurt (and Amber), and Becca. Pastor Kurt has been involved in vocational ministry since 1985. His desire is to know Christ and to make Him known.
Sarah is a graduate of Parkersburg High School and WVU at Parkersburg, having earned a BS in Business Management with an Emphasis in Accounting. After working in the field of accounting for several years, she chose to be a stay-at-home mom to her daughter, Lauren, for as long as possible. When Lauren was in the third grade, Sarah returned to work in a local public accounting firm. She has been an active volunteer in children’s ministry since having her daughter in 2005. After being blessed to meet and marry her husband, Joe, in 2018, Sarah and her daughter transitioned to Emmanuel Baptist from their then current church family. She feels that God has blessed her tremendously with the opportunity to serve in the capacity of director of children’s ministries here at EBC, a truly loving church family. Sharing the love of God with those children who find their way to Emmanuel, and, by extension, with their families, is a true honor and dream come true for her.
Joe is a graduate of Parkersburg South High School, Glenville State College with a bachelor’s degree in secondary English and oral communications education, and Walden University with a master’s degree in education. He has taught at Parkersburg High School since 1997, and before that, he was the director of youth ministries right here at EBC. He was a volunteer with the youth group for several years before Jonathan Delgado, our beloved Family Life Minister, stepped down to take a position in a church in his home state of Georgia.
Joe is excited to be stepping in to work with the youth group until the church decides how it wants to proceed permanently. He’s also ecstatic to be working alongside his beloved wife Sarah, who is the director of children’s ministries.
Terri is a graduate of Parkersburg High School and Mountain State Business College. She worked at a local chemical plant (Cytec Industries/American Cyanamid in Willow Island, WV) for over 33 years in various executive secretarial, administrative assistant, and customer service positions, and took an early retirement in 2009. After her daughter Meghan (who is a Registered Nurse) got married and moved out, she decided to return to work and joined the staff at Emmanuel in 2016 as Office Secretary. She feels blessed to work in such a wonderful environment and feels every day is an opportunity to serve God. She has a one-year old granddaughter and a baby grandson due in June.
David is a graduate of Parkersburg High School, attended Glenville State College, and graduated from Mountain State College with an Associate Degree in Business and Transportation Management. David retired from the U.S. Treasury Dept. Bureau of the Public Debt with 26 years of civil service.
Prior to this position at Emmanuel Baptist, David had been employed as an organist for another local church for over 29 years, retiring in 2002. He lived in Florida for over 10 years and was employed at a church there too until returning to West Virginia. Since his return, he has been substituting at Emmanuel and various local churches. He feels very honored to once again become a staff member organist at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Gary is a graduate of Parkersburg High School (1964) and Glenville State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and mathematics. After forty years’ service in various chemical companies, Gary retired with his wife, Sharon, in Vienna, WV. Together, they have three grandchildren, whom they adore.
Gary loves to travel, spend time with his family, and play golf with his friends.
Gary and Sharon have been members of Emmanuel Baptist Church since 1978. He was active in children’s’ ministry when his sons were young. Since then, he has taught Sunday School, led bible study groups, and served as Minister of Facilities.
Gary has served as church treasurer since 2010. It is through this ministry that he hopes to help accomplish God’s purpose for our church and community.
